This paper introduces a research agenda on “integrated management and services for urban development records, archives and information”, a national research project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It discusses seven aspects of the agenda: background to the research, the research aims, the research objectives and questions, focuses and hypothesis of the project, analytical framework and methodology of the project, research plans, and the expected outcomes for the study.

This study aims to share the development of new conceptual tools, which merge theories of critical whiteness studies (CWS), epistemic injustice and abolitionist teaching, applying them to the discourse of pre- and in-service teachers across the predominantly white institutions (PWIs) as they discuss antiracist teaching through the book Stamped and a series of online discussions.

This qualitative, collaborative practitioner inquiry derived data from video-recorded, online discussions, interviews and weekly research meetings. Critical discourse analysis revealed theoretical gaps and prompted the integration of additional theories, resulting in new conceptual tools, which are applied here to both “in the moment” exchanges between participants and individuals’ reflections in interviews.

Applying new conceptual tools to discussions of whiteness and race revealed how epistemic harm, microresistance and epistemic justice emerge in talk along with the importance of cultivating critical vigilance among antiracist educators.

This study elucidates how merging the conceptual frameworks of CWS, epistemic injustice and abolitionist teaching provides new tools for interrogating antiracism relative to whiteness in participants’ and researchers’ experiences. It challenges teacher educators, particularly at PWIs, to recognize how epistemic harm may be inflicted on students of color when centering whiteness in teacher education.

Drawing on ethnographic research in selection of urban households in Providence County, Rhode Island, the purpose of this paper is to define uncertainty as an everyday experience embedded in material and social worlds and explore the relationship of uncertainty to creative improvisation and well-being.

This research was anthropological and ethnographic, drawing on an everyday material culture approach to the home. Participant observation and interviews began in April 2015 and ended in April 2016. The data presented in derived from interview transcripts, field notes and photography.

Responses to uncertainty are embedded in habits and practices that help sustain well-being. During uncertain periods marked by transition, change and disappointment, participants draw on domestic practices as well as narrative frameworks to foster stability. Security, well-being, uncertainty, and improvisation emerge as an important intersection in everyday life.

This paper offers a perspective on uncertainty at the intimate level of the home, helping nuance the difference between collective creative improvisation and the economic expectation of individual adaptability.

During the 1980s, mushroom production developed as the most important sector of the Northern Ireland horticultural industry. Describes a strategic programme by which Northern Ireland can maintain its existing share of the Great Britain market for fresh mushrooms in the face of increasing competition from other import sources. Identifies and considers adjustment to supply timing, widening the areas of distribution and expanding market demand. Describes improvements in product quality and presentation as integral facets of the programme.

A broad discussion of progress in the automation of archive administration, in the light of links between archivists, museum staffs, librarians and information scientists. A brief survey of the history and literature of the subject is followed by an analysis of the special problems involved in archival description (uniqueness, bulk, new accruals, the need to describe at different levels). The special nature of records management and the control of machine‐readable archives, and the nature of the professional response of archivists are considered and current problems (under‐use of some materials combined with excessive user demand). Conclusions include a recommendation for further development of an agreed data standard.

A statement of personal opinion on some of the effects of media discussion of issues with a records component. Appraisal of records for retention and the access to be given to users of these are singled out. Effects of electronic records management are included. Accountability is seen as the main principle in the appraisal of public records, but is extended to the private sector in such matters as environmental protection. Access is affected by the opening of the hitherto secret records of Eastern Europe, but also by new legal provision for data protection and freedom of information. Principles for further development of professional action in records and archives management are suggested.
